Sedgemoor District Council is continuing work on the Local Plan 2011-2032 that will help shape the future of our District. When adopted, this new Local Plan will replace the current Development Plan for the District, called the Core Strategy 2006-2027.
Sustainability Appraisal (SA) is a systematic process, aimed at appraising the social, environmental and economic effects of plans, strategies and policies and ensuring that they accord with the objectives of sustainable development. SA is required by the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004 and incorporates Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) as required by the SEA Directive.
A Housing Needs Survey will highlight local demand for both affordable housing and other forms of housing. Affordable housing is for local people who are unable to rent or buy accommodation on the open market.
Since 2015, extensive work has been carried out to update the character appraisal and formulate a management plan for the Bridgwater St John's Conservation Area. A consultation draft has now been completed and as part of this process, a six week period of public consultation on the document will run from 5th November 2018 until 17th December 2018.
