Discretionary help towards Council Tax and Rent payments

Are you suffering exceptional circumstances? We may be able to offer short term extra help for your rent via Discretionary Housing Payments or an Exceptional Hardship Payment towards your Council Tax.

An Exceptional Hardship Policy has been set up by the Council to assist customers in receipt of Council Tax Support who are facing 'exceptional hardship'. The Policy has been created to provide further financial assistance where the customer is in receipt of Council Tax Support but the level of support being paid by the Council does not meet their full council tax liability;

Discretionary Housing Payments (known as DHP's) provide customers in receipt of Housing Benefit or Universal Credit with additional help with housing costs (rent).

For further details of the scope of these policies and how decisions are made please refer to related documents below.
