Since 2015, extensive work has been carried out to update the character appraisal and formulate a management plan for the Bridgwater St John's Conservation Area. A consultation draft has now been completed and as part of this process, a six week period of public consultation on the document, 'Bridgwater St John's Conservation Area: Character Appraisal & Management Plan 2018', took place from 5th November to 17th December 2018.

The document consists of two parts, the first part is a Character Appraisal, which outlines the historic development of the area and including a character analysis outlining what makes the conservation area special. The Appraisal includes a boundary review identifying amendments to the existing boundary.
The second part, the Management Plan, outlines how the conservation area will be managed to ensure existing special character is preserved or enhanced where possible. This includes an Action Plan highlighting how this will be achieved as well as opportunities for redevelopment and general design principles.
The consultation period has now closed.
Following this period of consultation, any comments received will be considered and the documents amended as necessary, with a final version of the document being adopted. The adopted 'Bridgwater St John's Conservation Area: Character Appraisal & Management Plan 2018' will be a material consideration for any planning applications within the Bridgwater St John's Conservation Area. Once adopted, 'Part 2: The Management Plan' section of the document will be the subject of a review period set out within the document. The outcome of the review will be published and the document updated and will be the subject of a separate consultation period and further information will be made available when the review takes place.
