Sport & Leisure Facilities grants awarded 2016/17

Nearly half a million pounds has been granted to fourteen Sports and Leisure Clubs with the Bridgwater area. The money was put aside from EDF Energy's Section 106 Planning Obligations relating to Site Preparation Works for Hinkley Point C and was allocated by Sedgemoor District Council's Grants Sub-Committee.

In January 2012, it was agreed that £500,000 shall be spent for the purposes of providing new, or improving existing sports/leisure facilities in Bridgwater.

The Awards which totalled £478,709 were as follows:-

  • Bridgwater College awarded £150,000
  • Pawlett Sports and Playing Field Association awarded £50,000
  • North Petherton Rugby Club awarded £50,000
  • Puriton Playing Fields £39,117
  • Bridgwater Cricket Club awarded £17,000
  • Bridgwater Tennis Club awarded £30,000
  • Stockmoor and Willstock Timebank awarded £22,377
  • Somerset Youth and Community Sailing Association awarded £16,176
  • Victoria Park Bowling Club awarded £14,000
  • Bridgwater Cycling Club awarded £6,840
  • Wembdon Juniors Football Club awarded £6,500
  • Sydenham Short Mat Bowls Club awarded £5,300
  • Sydenham Rangers Football Club awarded £2,588
  • Bridgwater Swimming Club - £2,260
