Parish Plans

Parish plans provide the opportunity for communities to come together to set out their vision for their community; their aspirations and aims.

The Background

The Government's Rural White Paper published in 2000 outlined a desire to give communities "a bigger say in managing their own affairs, and the chance to give everyone in the community a say in how it develops." The White paper goes on to state that Parish Plans should "identify key facilities and services, set out the problems that need to be tackled and demonstrate how distinctive character and features can be preserved".

What they can do for your community

Parish plans provide the opportunity for communities to come together to set out their vision for their community; their aspirations and aims.

Whilst they do not form part of the development plan they do provide useful community guidance highlighting local issues, and priorities.

The District Council can locally "adopt" Parish Plans in order to give them some "weight" when considering future planning applications although this is not the same as being part of the development plan.
