Planning Guidance on Space for Sport and Play

The Council have adopted Supplementary Planning Guidance (SPG) on Outdoor Space for Sport and Children's Play Space in New Housing Development.

The Sedgemoor Core Strategy contains policies that seek to achieve adequate recreational open space in conjunction with new residential developments, broadly in accordance with the recommendations of the National Playing Fields Association's "Six Acre Standard":

  • Policy RLT2 seeks 20 square metres of children's play space per new dwelling
  • Policy RLT3 seeks contributions towards the provision of outdoor sites for sport at a rate of 40 square metres per dwelling.

The Council has supplemented local planning policy with a guidance note on this subject which was adopted on 29th August 2007.

This document is available for download at the bottom of this page, together with an up-to-date schedule of RLT2 and RLT3 contributions required from new development.

The Draft Playing Pitch Strategy is also relevant and also available to download below.
