Planning Guidance on Space for Sport and Play
UPDATE - With the introduction of CIL, and the adoption of the Sedgemoor Local Plan 2011 - 2032, this supplementary guidance is no longer applicable. However, until the RLT2 and RLT3 funds are depleted, the link to the application form and information on how these funds will be spent remains extant. The Council are preparing an Open Space, Sport and Recreation Study which will set out the strategy for providing space for sport, recreation and play within the District. In due course, the supplementary guidance may be replaced, to provide up-to-date guidance on how relevant local planning policies will be applied.
The Council have adopted Supplementary Planning Guidance (SPG) on Outdoor Space for Sport and Children's Play Space in New Housing Development.
The Sedgemoor Core Strategy contains policies that seek to achieve adequate recreational open space in conjunction with new residential developments, broadly in accordance with the recommendations of the National Playing Fields Association's "Six Acre Standard":
- Policy RLT2 seeks 20 square metres of children's play space per new dwelling
- Policy RLT3 seeks contributions towards the provision of outdoor sites for sport at a rate of 40 square metres per dwelling.
The Council has supplemented local planning policy with a guidance note on this subject which was adopted on 29th August 2007.
This document is available for download at the bottom of this page, together with an up-to-date schedule of RLT2 and RLT3 contributions required from new development.
