Christmas and New Year in Sedgemoor

Sedgemoor District Council will remain open for business as usual during the holiday period on all days except bank holidays.

Rubbish and recycling collections will be two days later from Monday 25th to Friday 29th December, and one day later between Monday 1st to Friday 5th January. Sedgemoor's help for small businesses

Sedgemoor District Council has awarded almost £38,000, divided between ten local businesses, in the first round of its Small Business Grant Funding. 27/11/17

The grants are intended to help develop Sedgemoor businesses in order to encourage sustainable economic growth, create jobs and raise the District's overall competitiveness. At the same time, they aim to help people in Sedgemoor realise their own potential and improve prosperity.

The following businesses and individuals were successful in their applications

  • Michael Dodson was given a grant of £5,000 to purchase a replacement business vehicle to offer a more reliable service to customers of his construction business.

  • Monmouth Scientific Ltd had a £5,000 grant to buy additional design software which will help improve the product range and assist with growth into international markets.

  • Curtisee Cabs received a grant of £4,560 for new software that will streamline the business and some additional training for drivers.

  • PPIE Solutions had £5,000 for buying a pump to improve the water jetting business.

  • Hatty Boots received £1,500 to run a social media marketing campaign to boost website traffic.

  • Bridgwater and Albion RFC had £3,536 to replace existing lighting with more cost efficient LED lighting.

  • Drinkwater Tree Services Ltd had a grant of £5,000 to purchase additional tools and equipment and training.

  • Rogers Electrics were granted £1,875 to develop a newly branded responsive website. The increased income from the website will be re-invested in training.

  • First Class Nurseries had a grant of £4,972.20 for buying new outdoor play and learning equipment.

  • RK Bell were granted £1,500 for upskilling an employee with specialist training.

The next round of grants will be available for applications from 1st January, 2018 to 9th February 2018. Contact for further information.

Businesses can use the grant towards any of the following:

• Retain and employ new staff

• Invest in new facilities, equipment and processes

• Carry out innovative R&D

• Diversify into new markets

• Undertake marketing initiatives

• Export


To be eligible for a SME grant you must meet the below criteria:

• Headquarters located in Sedgemoor

• Must be an independent business

• Employ less than 200 people

• Business has been operating for more than one year

• Provide 3 quotes for purchases, unless purchasing a specialist product or service

• Must provide a full years accounts


The programme will seek to prioritise funding for those small/medium businesses with the potential for growth, but in need of additional help to move forward.

The grant cannot be used to supplement a loss of income. Only one application per business.
