National Grid's proposed Hinkley Point C Connection

National Grid's proposed Hinkley Point C Connection

National Grid is proposing a new 400,000 volt overhead transmission line between Bridgwater and Avonmouth. As this is a national infrastructure project, the planning application has been examined by the Planning Inspectorate (PINS). The examination started on 19th January 2015 and closed on 19th July 2015.

The Secretary of State granted permission for a Development Consent Order (DCO) to National Grid to build a new electricity connection scheme from Hinkley Point C to Seabank in Avonmouth on 19th January, 2016.  The Development Consent Order is a lengthy and complex document, similar to the consent for the main power station.

The route goes through six council areas - Bristol City Council, North Somerset Council, Sedgemoor District Council, Somerset County Council, South Gloustershire Council and West Somerset Council.

For information relating to Sedgemoor's previous engagement with National Grid during the planning process (2011 to 2017), please see the under History, Links and information.

For the latest information from National Grid regarding this project, please see the  National Grid website.
