Mortgage & rent arrears

Mortgage and rent payments are priority because if you do not pay these, you could be in danger of losing your home.

If you are having difficulties paying your mortgage or falling behind with rent payments, contact your lender/bank as soon as possible and discuss with them any options you may have.  The Government has introduced a 'pre action protocol' that requires lenders to demonstrate that they have considered all alternative arrangements with borrowers in arrears before seeking repossession, so they should be your initial contact.

If you are Homes in Sedgemoor tenant, please contact HiS Customer Services as soon as possible.

Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB), Bridgwater 01278 455236 will also provide independent help to anyone facing repossession in mortgage or rent arrears and debt and welfare advice in order to prevent people falling into arrears in the first place.

Anyone in mortgage difficulties or rent arrears should contact a housing advisor in the Sedgemoor District Council Housing Advice Team.  The Housing Advice Team provides people with help in addressing their housing and other related needs in order to enable them to remain in their current homes, where appropriate, phone 0845 408 2546 or e-mail customer.services@sedgemoor.gov.uk
