Sedgemoor District Council has recently adopted a Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) for the Eastover area of Bridgwater. This document is intended to guide development and promote regeneration of the area. It will also provide the important context in which to consider the redevelopment of the Bridgwater Hospital site.
Following the public consultation held during autumn 2012 on the future of Eastover, work has been on-going to develop policy that incorporates the positive comments and suggestions made at that time. It was clear from the consultation that there are many interesting and diverse shops and businesses in the Eastover area (known as the Eastover triangle) but feedback suggested the area feels 'cut off' from the rest of the town, lacks a clear identity, and has parking problems.
A "Preferred Option" document was prepared that addressed many of the issues raised, and in particular, focused on ways to make the area more attractive and accessible to shoppers. This document can be downloaded from the bottom of the page.
Following a second round of consultation in June and July 2013 on the 'Preferred Options' document, a draft Supplementary Planning Document went to Full Council on 8th January 2014 and was adopted subject to technical drafting changes. The final version is now available to download below.
