The Housing, Health and Wellbeing group within Sedgemoor District Council has funding to support communities to deliver health and wellbeing projects. We are inviting communities to bid for funds through the Community Health Fund to help improve the health of our residents.
The Sedgemoor Health Profile (2016) and Sport England Active People data (2016) show that Sedgemoor's adult obesity and diabetes levels are significantly higher than the national average with healthy eating and physical activity levels some of the lowest in the South West of England. Sedgemoor has pockets of deprivation where the overall health of the community is worse than in more affluent areas. In these areas there is a need for more focussed project work around health and wellbeing to provide people with more opportunities to improve their health. This year we are extending our criteria to support projects that address loneliness across all age groups.
The District council wants to fund sustainable and measurable projects that fit into the broad themes of:
Physical Activity - increasing opportunities for, and levels of, physical activity within Sedgemoor communities
Healthy Eating - promotion of food growing, healthy eating, cooking skills, access to healthy foods
Weight Management- reducing levels of overweight/obesity within Sedgemoor communities
Promoting emotional and physical wellbeing through projects which address loneliness and isolation by engaging new people
