Sedgemoor District Council has been working on Employment and Skills in the district for 5 years, our experience in joint working with key agencies highlighted that a neutral space to deliver activity from would be a step in breaking down barriers for people looking for support in this area. In 2016 funding became available and we were able to source a premises; Under Construction became a reality and in April 2017 we launched with the help of Sally Gunnell. Since then we have continued to support activity offered by a number of organisations; Job Centre Plus, Kier Group, Pluss, HPC Jobs Service and the National Careers Service. Partner organisations that support Under Construction deliver events as part of their core activity or as a group in relation to the needs of the area. With this always changing, not one day at Under Construction is ever the same! With exciting regeneration happening, we want to make sure that the whole community benefit from the opportunities that arise.
A Skills Café, which aims to help people learn or improve the skills useful for a fuller life and the world of work in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, opens its doors in Bridgwater with Sedgemoor District Council as one of the lead partners.
