Planning Consent for Somerset development site, Bridgwater

Sedgemoor District Council have granted planning consent for the site currently known as Huntspill Energy Park, sold last month to Salamanca Group from BAE Systems. 30/11/17

BAE Systems submitted the application in April 2013, which was for outline approval for the Energy Park, including the development of 95 hectares (235 acres) of energy related employment uses, new footpath and cycle routes, public open space and a 'green' bridge. The application also sought full consent for a new access road linking the site to the A39 and a storage building. The submission of the application followed on from the Council's allocation of the site within its adopted Core Strategy and the publication of a planning policy document dealing specifically with the site.

Following careful consideration, the Development Committee in November 2013 resolved to grant consent subject to the signing of a section 106 agreement to secure appropriate mitigation, in the interests of the proper planning of the area. Given the lengthy negotiations on the complex legal agreement, the application was re-assessed in respect of its environmental impact by the Development Committee in August 2017 and the original resolution endorsed.

The section 106 Agreement was signed by all parties and the decision notice issued concurrently on the 28 November 2017.
