Planning Consultations

EDF Energy applied on the 31st October 2011 for consent to build a new nuclear power station at Hinkley Point.

On July 28 2011 EDF Energy was granted permission, subject to conditions and obligations, by West Somerset Council to start preparation work on 171 hectare site at Hinkley Point in association with its plans to build two new nuclear reactors.

The permission allows EDF Energy to clear the site and prepare it. Activity will include earthworks, excavations, drainage, fencing and the creation of roads and car parks. EDF Energy has said it will reinstate the land should permission for the main project not be granted.
