Christmas and New Year in Sedgemoor

Sedgemoor District Council will remain open for business as usual during the holiday period on all days except bank holidays.

Rubbish and recycling collections will be two days later from Monday 25th to Friday 29th December, and one day later between Monday 1st to Friday 5th January. Burnham and Highbridge Area Neighbourhood Plan


The Burnham and Highbridge Area Neighbourhood Plan was formally submitted to Sedgemoor District Council in September 2017.

The Burnham and Highbridge Area Neighbourhood Development Plan contains unique local planning policies for the parish. It will steer Sedgemoor District Council's determination of decisions on planning applications and guide future development in the Burnham and Highbridge area.

Sedgemoor District Council is organising a formal public consultation on the Burnham and Highbridge Area Neighbour Plan, which will run for a period of 6 weeks from 10th October 2017 to 21st November 2017.

How to comment

Representations are invited on this plan by 5.00pm, 21st November 2017:

· By post to Planning Policy, Strategy and Development, Sedgemoor District Council, King Square, Bridgwater, Somerset, TA6 3AR 

Any representations can include a request to be notified of the Local Planning Authority's decision under regulation 26 of the Neighbourhood Planning Regulations 2012 in relation to the neighbourhood development order or community right to build order.

After this six week period, the next stage will be to appoint an independent examiner who will examine the submission plan.  Should the examiner be satisfied, the submitted plan will proceed to a referendum in accordance with the Neighbourhood Planning (Referendums) Regulation 2012 No.2031 (Regulation 8 Schedule 3 Neighbourhood Planning Referendum Rules).  Further information regarding the referendum will be made available as soon as practicable.

Environmental Assessment

In February 2017, the Burnham and Highbridge Draft Neighbourhood Plan 2014 - 2032 was submitted to Sedgemoor District Council for assessment to determine whether it is likely to have significant environmental effects.  The draft plan was screened in accordance with Part II of The Environmental Assessment of Plans and Programmes Regulations 2004 to determine whether SEA was necessary, in consultation with the statutory environmental bodies. Separately, it was screened in accordance with the Habitat Regulations to determine whether Appropriate Assessment was necessary. Sedgemoor District Council has determined that the Burnham and Highbridge Draft Neighbourhood Plan 2014 - 2032 is not likely to have significant environmental effects and that an environmental assessment is not required in respect of the draft plan.  The Determination under Regulation 9(1) and the accompanying Statement is available as a PDF download below, although should a hard copy be required please contact the Planning Policy team using the contact details below.
